Mercedes GP F1 team have decided to postphone the debut of thier new car for 2012 until the second pre-season test at Barcelona. While the competitors, Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Lotus will perform test to Jerez on February 7 with thier new car, and Mercedes will use thier last season car W02. Seeing this, Mercedes boss, Norbert Haug believes that Mercedes has made the right decision in delaying the debut of thier new car for 2012.

Mercedes will only make the on-track debut two weeks later in a second test in Barcelona. Haug said it is not “defer” but justadjust their own schedules. ”If you have a half-year period to develop a car, then 10 days can be very important,” said Norbert.

“It’s our decision We want to test the right car, completed in each detail and every .. That’s why we need development time.

“It’s important to show that it is a conscious decision I know that all the other teams will be there with their cars at Jerez but this is unusual ..

“Other teams are already in the process of catch-up has been decided to go first in the second test run, so this is not a new event.

“We fully appreciate that other teams have different plans and be ready at the first test, but we are not delayed, we just follow our process, and then we’ll see what the result will be ..”.

Waiting until the second test will not mean that the first opportunity thrown away. It is intended to allow time for teams to test new parts and change the 2012 Pirelli tires. ”We will have some part to learn from the first test,” he said. ”We can use a new generation of tires, which is a good way to draw because you have a data base with old tires to compare it with.” We need to learn more about the behavior of our tires. ”.
